PUBLIC HEARING on the advisability of establishing a community improvement district (CID) at the corner of SW 32nd Terrace and SW Topeka Boulevard and levying a 2% CID sales tax within the CID.
(The general nature of the proposed South Topeka CID is to facilitate the commercial redevelopment of the area by constructing two new pad restaurants and a strip retail center, collectively comprising approximately 20,000 square feet of new commercial space. Estimated investment is $15 million. The proposed method of financing the costs is a 2% sales tax on all goods/services within the CID.)
| VOTING REQUIREMENTS: | There is no voting requirement to conduct the public hearing. | POLICY ISSUE: | Whether to hold the public hearing as required by state law. | STAFF RECOMMENDATION: | Staff recommends conducting the public hearing pursuant to Resolution No 9407 approved on May 2, 2023. | BACKGROUND: | 911 Walnut, Inc. has requested consideration of a CID at 32nd Terrace and SW Topeka Boulevard. The Governing Body approved Resolution No. 9407 setting a public hearing to consider comment at its May 2, 2023 Governing Body meeting.
The general nature of the proposed CID is to facilitate the commercial redevelopment of the area by constructing two new pad restaurants and a strip retail center, collectively comprising approximately 20,000 square feet of new commercial space. Estimated investment is $15 million. The proposed method of financing the costs is a 2% sales tax on all goods/services within the CID.
