A RESOLUTION introduced by City Manager Brent Trout, setting the public hearing to consider the advisability of establishing a Community Improvement District (CID) at SW 17th and SW Wanamaker Road, pursuant to K.S.A. 12-6a26 et seq.
Voting Requirement: At least six (6) votes of the Governing Body is required.
(Approval would set a public hearing date of April 9, 2019, to consider establishing a CID.) | VOTING REQUIREMENTS: | At least 6 votes of the governing body. | POLICY ISSUE: | Whether to set a public hearing. | STAFF RECOMMENDATION: | Staff recommends the Governing Body approve the resolution. | BACKGROUND: | EIG Wanamaker, LLC owns the shopping center at the southeast corner of 17th and Wanamaker Road. EIG Wanamaker, LLC, wants to redevelop the shopping center so that the center can be competitive in a challenging retail environment. The project includes filling the vacant K-Mart space with multiple new tenants.
Projected costs are $31,400,000. The developer is requesting imposition of a 1% additional sales tax on sales of tangible personal property and services within the proposed district which will reimburse the developer for some of the costs.
| BUDGETARY IMPACT: | As with all the CIDs in the city, this is a 'pay-as-you-go' project which utilizes the additional sales tax to reimburse the developer for a portion of the project costs. | SOURCE OF FUNDING: | All costs paid by the developer. |
