BOARD APPOINTMENT recommending the re-appointment
of Stephanie Mott to the Topeka Human Relations Commission to fill an unexpired term ending August 31, 2017. (Council District No.1) | POLICY ISSUE: | Ordinance 18382. The purpose of the Topeka Human Relations
Commission is to endeavor to eliminate prejudice among various
racial, ethnic and other groups in the city, and to further goodwill
among all people of the city.
The commission will:
(a) Support efforts to eliminate prejudice because of race, religion, creed, color, sex, disability, national origin or ancestry, age, sexual orientation or gender identity and further goodwill among all people of
the city and promote goodwill, cooperation and conciliation within the
city;
(b) Promote and facilitate Town Hall meetings and public forums on
issues of interest and concern to residents of Topeka;
(c) Participate in outreach activities and public education;
(d) Partner with groups that share similar goals;
(e) By February 1st of each year, prepare and submit an annual report to the city and the city council of the commission’s activities, identifying
issues and problem areas within the Topeka community and, after
reviewing the performance of the commission during the year, propose any modifications to the Topeka Municipal Code that would improve
the effectiveness of the commission and better fulfill the
antidiscrimination policies of the city. | STAFF RECOMMENDATION: | Deputy Mayor Hiller nominates and Mayor Wolgast recommends the re-appointment of Stephanie Mott tothe Topeka Human Relations
Commission to fill an unexpired term ending August 31, 2017. | BACKGROUND: | This is a City-created board where the City Council nominates and the
Mayor appoints. The board shall be comprised of nine members and
serve two-year terms. Members shall be drawn from diverse
racial,ethnic, commercial, industrial and other segments of the
community and shall be city residents. Members shall serve without
compensation. | BUDGETARY IMPACT: | There is no budgetary impact to the City. | SOURCE OF FUNDING: | Not Applicable |
